make sure to trim your wick before EACH lighting (but never while it's lit)

placing the long handle against the side of the jar for guidance,

discard trimmed portion.

tips:

you can usually eyeball how much you need to trim. just look for the small "ball" of soot on the end and trim off that portion OR trim off portion of the wick that is leaning.
