candle care

your candles need a little self-care too. follow these tips to ensure your candles stay in the best condition possible :)

1. trim the wick

it's important to keep the wick trimmed. this is essential for ALL candles, not just rhuna's. what happens if you don't trim the wick? it can cause "popping", smoke/soot, and uneven burning.
  • first, allow the candle to come to room temperature after extinguishing.
  • then, using scissors, fingers, or even nail clippers, pinch off the top of the wick. you only need to trim it about 1/4". sometimes this just means the black "ball" on the end or part of the wick that is leaning over
  • discard the trimmed portion
  • repeat after every burn

2. let. it. burn.

make sure to burn the candle ~3 hours at a time

this is MOST essential on the FIRST burn, but if you continuously only burn it less than 3 hours at a time, tunneling may occur

(this means wax will build up on the sides of the jar and won't burn properly)

3. ff when there's only 1/4" wax left

if you continue to burn the candle when there's little wax left, it can overheat the jar and be very dangerous.

  • if you want to use the remaining wax:
  • put the candle jar in the freezer for 10-15 minutes
  • using a spoon or knife, scoop out the remaining wax
  • you can use the rest of this in a wax warmer

      4. safety first

do not burn for more than 4-5 hours at a time! the jar can get really hot

keep away from vents, drafts, fans, etc (this can cause the candle to burn really hot due to the flame moving around)

      don't leave the candle unattended

keep away from children and pets

do NOT use water to extinguish the flame (water and oil do not mix!)
